One of our biggest monthly expenses is food. For 2 people, we spend around $500 a month just on groceries! I don’t know about you, but I think that’s insane and it’s been my goal to drastically reduce it.

So how does the $5 Meal Plan work?
It’s very simple. You can either use the weekly meal plan that’s sent to your email each week (as described above) or you can create your own. Creating your own meal plan is very simple, and here’s how ya do it!
Once logged in to the $5 Meal Plan website, you should be taken to the Member Dashboard. If this is not the case, then simply click on Home at the top and you will be taken to the Member Dashboard. From here, you have 5 options, which I cover next.
1. Build Your Own Meal
This is one of the best features, as it allows you to personally choose meals based on a ton of different categories. You can build your own meal based on the following:
Meal of the Day: As you’ve probably already guessed, you can choose your meal plan (of 10 meals) based on a specific meal time. You can choose from: breakfast, lunch, dinner, snack, dessert, side dishes, and beverages.
Cooking Method: If you’re looking for a specific way to cook your meals, this category’s got you covered. The cooking methods to pick from are: baked, dutch oven or saucepan, freezer friendly, grilled, one dish dinners, skillet dinners, and slow cooker.
Ingredient: This is great if you’re trying to use up specific ingredients you already have or if you’re just feeling a specific food group. They are broken down into the following groups: beans, beef, breads, chicken, eggs, fish & seafood, pasta, pizza, pork, potatoes & sweet potatoes, quinoa, rice, salads, and turkey & ham.
Dietary Preferences: For anyone with dietary restrictions, this category rocks. These are the dietary preferences taken into account: dairy-free, gluten & dairy & soy-free, gluten-free, paleo, and vegetarian. Needless to say, the $5 Meal Plan is a viable option for almost anyone.
Building your own meal plan allows you to tailor your menu to what you have, what you want, or what dietary restrictions you have.
Each of these options allows you to mix and match up to 10 recipes for the week based on whatever you want. You simply choose a category, subcategory, and select meals that look good (they pretty much all do). You can click on each dish and there will be a popup with all of the ingredients and cooking instructions. Once you’ve found a recipe you want to try, simply click the + Add Recipe in the recipe popup. You can also drag and drop the recipe to the My Meal Plan box in the right sidebar.
If you want to switch to a different category, click the Back to Search Categories arrow in the right sidebar. The recipes you already added to your meal plan will still be there.
After you’ve got all 10 recipes for the week, click Review and Print in the right sidebar. You’ll be taken to a page to review all of your recipes. Once it all looks good, you have 3 options for getting your meal plan. You can download it directly, have it sent to your email so you have it for later, or you can save it. When you save a meal plan, it gets saved in the My Meal Plan box in the right sidebar of the Build Your Own Meal category for you to download or add to later.

2. Download Meal Plans
Each week, an email is sent out to members of the $5 Meal Plan (over 35,000 families have tried it!). In that email, there’s a link to the latest meal plan that will take you to the Download Meal Plans page. If you don’t have problems with the meal plans that are pre-made, simply click on Download my Classic Meal Plan and you can print it. It’s as easy as that! No more figuring out what to make for dinner, no more making a grocery list (except for other things you may need), and no more stress from figuring out what to make for dinner!
3. Visit the Library
The library is where all of your purchases and freebies are located. Purchases can include specialty meal plans, ebooks, or anything else that isn’t a weekly meal plan.
The freebies are awesome because they give you a ton of specific recipes to try whenever you want. 4. Visit the Store
The $5 Meal Plan offers other options than just the weekly meal plan. The Store is where you can browse and purchase these other options at very reasonable prices. Some of the paid options are 6 Weeks of Slow Cooker Meals, 6 Weeks of 30-Minute Meals, and 6 Weeks of Skimpy Calorie Meals.
If you make any purchase and are not satisfied with it, you can be refunded for it. I think this is great, and they make it super simple to do.
5. Free Coupons!
The $5 Meal Plan has a section for recent coupons from coupons.com. You can peruse the coupons, check mark the ones you’re interested in, click ‘Get Coupons,’ and then download them. It’s super simple.
If you don’t see the coupons, simply turn off your ad-blocker and refresh the page. The coupons will then appear. It’s as easy as that and you can save even more time and money with coupons in one spot.
